As some of you may recall, I purchased a Savage 110 chambered in 7mag a few weeks back, and was interested in changing it to a .223 caliber for plinking, and semi-serious target shooting.
Due to the lack of 110 parts to change the magazine out for a .223, I decided to swap it out.
After a week or so, I traded the 7mag for a Savage Model 110 .270, 3 boxes of ammo, and a summit climbing stand, then traded the .270 +$50 for a Savage Model 11 .223 in the Hog Hunter platform...

Needless to say, I am VERY HAPPY with the trade.

Today, I mounted a 6.5x20x50 AO scope on the .223, and I'm looking forward to working up a decent hunting load for next year.

For now, I'm using my father in law's target round for plinking, and it shoots very well through my rifle.

Enough jawing...here are some pics, and a target from the first 3 rounds at 100yds that we sent downrange with my old 3x12x40 Bushnell...

Upgrades that will be considered in the near future...

22" Heavy Barrel
Boyds Pepper Laminate High Rise Stock
Adjustable Bipod

For now, I'm very happy with the setup I currently have. It shoots 1/2" groups with a 'bench load' at 100yds. Given a little time to tailor a load to shoot better, will determine if I decide to upgrade to a heavier barrel. But for now, 1/2" groups at 100, isn't bad.
