I recently purchased a J. Stevens Model 335 SxS 16 gauge. It Is in very good condition for its age. I am however, trying to find out age, time frame of manufacture, etc. The Serial number is A152XX. Any help would be great, can't find much info on it.

Thanks

Triple checked...the serial number is correct. The receiver is engraved "J. Stevens and Company" inside a scroll. Serial number is A152XX. It was a C&R transfer.

Found it advertised in a 1929 Stevens catalog, not sure when it was discontinued.

1919nut,
Is it marked "J Stevens and Company" or "J Stevens Arms Company"? The model 335 was first advertised in Stevens revised catalog #52 in 1909 and was made until about 1929 as stated above. Stevens was called the "J Stevens Arms & Tool Co" until about 1916 when they stopped civilian arms production and teamed up with New England Westinghouse to make Mosin-Nagant rifles for the Russian Czar for WWI. When the communists took over they didn't get paid and went bankrupt. Savage bought them and renamed them the "J Stevens Arms Company" in 1920. So the company name gives you an idea when it was made. Stevens had several accidental fires in their records room, usually when they were being investigated for war profiteering, so dating Stevens firearms by serial number is usually a lost cause.
