I have a Model 16 chambered in .308, and I love this weapon. The only thing I hate is that when I use it for hunting here in NH, because we are required to unload our rifles before even laying them up against a pick up truck... So with an internal magazine, that can be a PITA. Is there a thread that walks me through it? Is it even possible? I don't want to buy another rifle as I love this one, it is outfitted with a Nikon 4-12X40 and it is very accurate. That being said, I do not want to go spend 400-500 for another rifle just for a detachable magazine when this one is as accurate as it is... Any help would be appreciated... Thanks!

Not really sure if there is a thread on this already. I converted a old stagger fed internal mag 110 to the newer center fed DBM. My project consisted of calling Savage and ordering the bottom metal, magazine and screws. For the work side of things, a dremel and a lot of patience and working slow. Measure things out. Draw your outlines and start working the dremel until your bottom metal fits. While I was at it, I put aluminum pillars in. I glass bed the whole bottom metal once I got things right. Then glass bedded the top side.

Hope this help a little. Take pics and let us know how it goes

Look at the FAQ's (http://www.savageshooters.com/content.php?123-savage-faq-s) section. There is a couple of articles on the differences of the inlets for your information.
