All Right Then, I finally finished up the first 2 pistol caliber, rifle length, barrels for my long suffering AXIS.

First up, 22 TCM in a "take off" Remington Sendaro S/S fluted, 21 inch.
Then a 7.62 X 25 in a "shot out" Ruger # 1 heavy barrel 22.6 inch.

With a 3 X 9 Weaver in place, on 2 piece mounts and the factory POS plastic stock. I set off for the 50 yard line.

The target below shows the first two 5 round groups for both, as well as the "sighters"

Seeing the "first time out" results, I think both of 'em are gonna be shooters.
The 7.62 was shot with Polish sub gun surplus ammo, 22 TCM was shot with RIA factory rounds.

With the stock .223 pencil barrel, and some smooth trigger work, the new kid was hovering around 1/2 MOA with a few wide flyers and some "clear off the paper" @ 100 Yd. tosses. (I blame that on the stock and the sun in my eyes...)

A new Boyd's thumbhole varmint stock, a one piece rail mount and better scope are in the works. Next range day, the crony goes too, might get some interesting data to mess with.

Rollin, Rollin, Rollin...

Paul

PS. Never mind, I can't figure out how to post pictures yet.

What have you tried.

I tried direct up load, from irfranview, several times. Then I read the Photobucket tutorial, I don't do Photobucket.
(weary of losing pictures out of threads, for no apparent reason)

I am not aware that there is an option for direct upload here. Photobucket or Imgur or something similar is all you can do. If you have a Free Photobucket Account It is simple. Open the image. Right click on the image. Select "Copy Image Location". In your post click on the image icon in the toolbar. An insert image box will open. hold down "CONT" and "V" at the same time. The URL will be pasted in the box. Click "post" after you have entered any text you want to add.

I appreciate the help guys. (I now know this site has no direct upload.)

I'll fill in the blanks. First group with the 22 TCM was a 5 shot group .710" extreme spread. Second group was 4 in .368" with a 5th called flyer opening the group to 1.190" ES.

The 7.62 X 25 first group was 5 shots in 1.670"ES, followed with 7 in 1.020" (some day's I don't count so good...I guess I thought it was gonna get smaller with each shot, ROFLMAO)

All things considered, I think that's a pretty good start, for a couple of handgun rounds from a carbine length barrel...

Thanks again, Paul

Keep us posted on developments I'm very interested in a pistol caliber build. What bolt head was used for your builds in the pistol calibers, a .378"?

I used the .223 bolt head. I chose this particular caliber because it covered a majority of calibers I was interested in. (9mm, 22 TCM, 7.62 X 25, as well as all the .223 case wildcats, 300 BL, 6mmTCU, 6.5 TCU, 7mm TCU, Et al.

I had to open the bolt head about 1.5 thousandths to aid feeding with the Polish and Romanian 7.62 X 25 surplus and "made for export" ammo, as the case head diameter varies by as much as .002" from spec's.

Thanks, Paul

I finally made some space for a range day. I ran some stuff over the chronograph, results are as follows:

7.62 X 25, 22 inch X .308 bore. (+ muzzle brake)

S & B 85 Gr. TOK

Ave FPS 1919 SD 21.5 Relative SD % 1.2

Wolf 85 Gr. TOK

Ave FPS 1754 SD 15.5 Relative SD % .88

Romanian Milsurp (soft) 95 Gr.

Ave FPS 1875 SD 12.1 Relative SD % .64

Hornady XTP 90 Gr. TOK hand load (extreme zombie terminator)

Ave FPS 2065 SD 11.1 Relative SD % .53

According to standard deviation, the "Zombie killer" should be the most accurate. but I've seen real world evaluation differ.

Next time, I'll shoot for smallest group @ 100 Yds. should be well under 1 MOA. (about 1 inch at 100 yards)
This is gonna be a fun lil' shooter, now to work up some 100,125,150 and 200 Gr. subsonic. Just under 1000 FPS there should be a sweet spot, suppressed.
************************************************** *****************************************

The 22 TCM, 20 inch X .223", no brake. shot as follows:

Factory 40 Gr.

Ave FPS 2740 SD 19.7 Relative SD % 1.3

Factory 40 Gr. handload (H-110)

Ave FPS 2741 (really!) SD 23.2 Relative % 3.95

Next up is handloads with 45, 50, 52, 55 and 69 Gr. bullets, both hyper and sub sonic. (No COAL problems in the rifle, as the magazine in my AXIS is .308 length) As well as a handful of of heavy Barnes solids to play with.

Comments?

Thanks, Paul
