Question on new 12 vlp

Savage website says they have 9 or 12 twist,how can I know which I have..and is this considered long or short action?.

All Savage 10, 11, 12, 14, 16's are short action.
110, 111, 112, 114, 116 are long action... get it?

to check twist rate of any barrel, use a free spinning cleaning rod and a tight patch... from the muzzle, insert the tight-patched rod 80% into the barrel. Mark the rod with a piece of tape at the muzzle, keeping track of "up". slowly pull the rod out of the barrel, watching the rod spin as it is withdrawn. Once the rod has spun a full 360 degrees, measure how far you pulled it from the muzzle. (THe idea is to see just how far you draw the tight patch for it to spin all the way around.) Yours will be close to 9 inches or 12 inches. 1:9 twist will be 9 inches, 1:12 will be 12 inches, etc.
