hey everybody i'm looking for a different stock for my stevens 200 but what i can't seem to find information about is the barrel, when i search my serial number this is what comes up for the barrel "BBL 7mm08/22SP" my question is what is BBL mean? Blue barrel or Bull Barrel? and what does SP stand for as well ? my rifle has been re-barreled for a 260 rem but still wonder what those letter codes mean ?

My guess, is the factory Stevens 200 had a 22" blued barrel (BBL) and Sporter (SP) contour.

what barrel did you use for your 260, what barrel length and what twist? I am getting ready to order a 260 to put on my Stevens 200.

The most important thing here is the profile of the NEW barrel.

mine was already converted so i am unsure of the brand of the barrel, it has a 1:8 twist, i measured it with a cleaning rod and i get 22 inches long or if you go by the recoil lug it measures at 21 inch, contour i'm not positive from what i can see it's and find info on it's an heavy sporter but from examples it looks like what they call a target contour, it measures at the crown 5/8ths anyway but has a gradual taper between the crown and barrel nut

Sounds like a "heavy barrel". Something like a light varmint. Things that have no bearing on you aftermarket stock choice is twist and length of barrel. If the barrel does not fit in the channel or the channel is too large is the concern.

Too large of a barrel channel is strictly cosmetic and has no functional down side as it allows more air around the barrel to help cool it. If you want the perfect fit just get a stock that will have to have the barrel channel sanded out and sand to your preference.

I agree with earl on the cosmetics but for some that is a large portion of the decision.
