112V Series J 220 Swift ?

I nominate the Savage 112V Series J single-shot in 220 Swift as the most difficult rifle to find in decent condition.

I swear that owners of such rifles have done more to abuse and modify those guns than any other gun I have searched for. They modify the stocks in ways that one could never imagine without seeing them. They love to find ways to rust them. And they like to put $20 scopes on them.

If any one ever comes across one in original decent condition, take a picture of it for me.

I have a near mint condition 1979 112R, (blind mag) J series 22-250 w/a 1979 (then new model) Weaver T16 steel scope. I could send you a pic, but it's not what your looking for.

I don't know, I am beginning to think that a 250 Sav. factory sporter barrel is even more rare.

Hammer was probably smart enough to keep his hoarding of those barrels quiet after his 220 swift scheme was made public

Come to think of it I aint never seen a 220 single shot J action?? A bunch of 22-250s and 243s, one 223 and one 25-06.
Coarse if I see it first all you'll get is a picture LOL
I dont think the carnage is limited to the 220 swift though? Always interesting to see what shows up when you say "I'll take it"..... Even with pics.
Anybody know what bedding compound this is?

The above is a 112V - S in 220 Swift. Only mods done to it...3 holes for a front sling swivel (NONE are centered), aftermarket trigger (VERY nice trigger - close to factory style, just adjustable all the way around), needs recrowned, and somebody slopped some varnish on it.

I don't know, but this one has some checkering on the palm swell....factory or not?

If memory serves me I do think the 112V did have palm swell checkering on it. I bought my 112R J series in 1979 and the V (varminter) came before it. Mine has no checkering on it at all.

It actually looks more like ground up cork? It will get redone this winter as the action rocks on this stuff bad!

Did the factory even crown the barrels? Looks like they just wacked it off with a fine saw and rounded the outside corners?? Just about every one I've seen has had the stock refinished, most have at least a fair job done.
They sure where fussy about what wood they put on them though....I think it had to be from a tree?

Nope I'm a little embarrassed to say I've never owned a Swift :-[ Have shot a couple but they where not even Savages so I know just what Adolf was feeling when the last swift got sold out from under him....Those F!@#$ing B!@#$ds!

I have one that was a safe queen when I bought it with a Harris bipod and Weaver K10 scope for $300 just 4 years ago. It was flawless until I put a light scratch about 2 1/2 inches long on the side of the stock. The rifle shoots consistent 1/4" or better 5 shot groups at 100yds. My only concern is that the rifle loves super hot loads and I worry about erosion as a result. I will touch up the scratch and it will look like it never had existed. I found this post when I was looking for info on obtaining an aftermarket stock....as they are impossible to come by. Zip me an email j_s16146@yahoo.com if you still want that pic....LOL

I have a 112J in .220 Swift in almost original condition, except that I have refinished the stock. Everything else is original.It is topped with a 20x Redfield 3200.
