what is the largest contour barrel that fits in the Savage 10 (current production) Accustock? will it take a bull contour .223 Criterion with no modification?

No. Both the "tactical" and sporter accustock would need the barrel channels widened to fit a bull barrel. It's easy to do. I just wrap sandpaper around a piece of straight 1" copper pipe and sand the channel until I'm satisfied with the clearance between the barrel and the stock. Other than that, make sure you have an accustock recoil lug or modify a standard recoil lug to match the aluminum bedding block. Accustock recoil lugs have the sides cut out a bit and are a little shorter than standard recoil lugs.

thank you. a heavy varmint profile would work with an unmodified stock i assume. the savage barrel that came out of the stock is .85 at the muzzle i believe

From that measurement, sounds like it's an FCP stock. In that case, yes, a heavy varmint contour should fit just fine. Most all aftermarket "bull" barrels are at least 1" at the muzzle.
