Hey everyone, new member from South Florida. I just picked up an older 111 in trade, it's chambered in .30-06, and serial numbered F4535xx. I read the FAQ's, and know that I can narrow down the manufacture date between 1988-95, and have sent a request for more info to Savage.

One thing I'd like some info on is the bases. This gun has weaver style bases that are part of the receiver; I read that some came that way, and others came silver soldered on. These are for sure part of the receiver. Does anyone have those model? Do the bases work out well? Here's a couple pics. The rings are marked Savage.

See this thread for more information: http://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?42108-Weird-110-action-receiver

I have one of the 110 series, in 30-06, Serial # F059xxx, with the bases cast into the receiver as well. Pencil thin barrel, nice trigger (was 4-5#, now 2.5#), and decent hardwood stock. From my laser measurements, it's in good shape and the bases are not twisted. I'm looking to convert it to a heavy barrel 308, but I'll know more when I get it barreled and re-scoped.
I've even thought about machining the bases off and mounting normal scope bases, but I'm not sure that the action will hold up. I'm used to working with 100 year old Mauser's and making them modern.
