playing the good, but lazy hubby, bought this package deal for the wife that comes with a bushnell "sharpshooter" 3-9x40 scope already mounted ... how bad could that all be for $255/shipped to my ffl?

well ...

the rifle arrived last week and i stiffened the fore and butt stock with rockite, added a caldwell 6-9 pivot bipod and tweaked the accu-trigger with an apachee kit that got the trigger down to about 9ozs. took it my club's police indoor 25yd range last night along with a few boxes of cci .22lr standards. shooting off the bipod, the scope was WAY off in both focus and alignment. it took 40 rounds and maxed out the full left adjustment on the scope to finally begin to zero in dead center. the last 5 rounds (left target face) finally got it together, but this was with a blurry target at about 6x that i just could not get the glass to focus well, at any magnification or target distance. other than the krap glass, the rifle is a sweetie and my wife will love it ... with NEW glass!

Looks like you have a shooter. I have a Mueller for my BTVLSS that I really like.

Nice groups. But if you're turned all the way to the left on your turret I'd try to do something with the way the scope is mounted to get it closer to being in the center of your scope range. My MkII was pretty messed up in the scope mount department. I had to shim the mounts to get them to have some play in the scope. It's too easy to get knocked off zero when the scope is adjusted that far one way or another. There are some pretty cheap rings that will allow windage adjustment. I have some Millet Angle Loc rings that have a windage adjustment built in. I have them mounted on my CZ because of the way they attach to the mount but they will do what you need them to do.

the issue was the supplied "sharpshooter" scope and its rings. new and far better tacfire rings that i honed with wheeler rods and lapping compound, a simmons .44 mag 4-12x44 sf scope that's spirit level mounted, laser bore sighted, and now *anyone* can one hole dead center @ 25 yards. a real "lazy man's" rifle.

That's much better than what I dealt with on my MkII. I still have a shim under a mount but no one would know it unless they took the mount off and there's not a lot of reason to do that. If somewhere down the line after I'm dead and gone someone decides to work on a rifle that shoots really well and maybe give it a face lift or what ever they might find that it would have been better to leave that mount in place.
