Bought a new rifle and scope, not much $$ left for spotting scope.
Need to be able to see 223 holes out to 200 yard.
Also 308 holes out to 300.
I am not opposed to used
I don't know what I need to achieve this.

I've got a Celestron Ultima 80 (20-60x80), and for the money, it's hard to beat.

We use 2 spotting scopes in machined adjustable brackets for long range hunting.
In PA, we must count points on a buck to assure its legal before shooting.
Hands down the most popular scope ever made for that purpose is the older 60mm Bushnell Spacemaster.
Im looking right now at 4 sets of these ive recently built laying on a table. Several will be sold and others used here.
There are several of those on ebay now. A very nice armor coated one perfect for your use is currently about $40.
Ebay #321893468807. Buy it and if your not completly happy ill buy it from you. Or you could buy one of several other uncoated
ones listed if you prefer, they are all the same scope. We usually use the uncoated ones when placing them in brackets.
If your budget allows you could also find a used Kowa on ebay. We use those also in brackets as binoculars. But for general use and
distances up to a 1000 yds the Spacemaster is all you need. On a good day you will see 30 cal holes on white targets at that distance.
You will also see hits on white steel targets up to a mile on a clear day for less than $100, maybe much less.

I ran an older Spacemaster I bought while on my units rifle team back in the 80s until recently it was marked as made in Japan and wasn't bad at all. Two years ago I bought a used Kowa 611 for $300 from a high power shooter it is amazing.
