I have a buddy who wants me to put together a 243 Win for him and he really has his heart set on a Krieger. Is it possible to get a prefit? I havent called Krieger as of yet....

No...buy a blank and have it threaded and chambered but its not going to be cheap.

If he'd be willing to take another big name, higher end prefit that isn't Krieger but holds the same lauded status, Sin Arms does Brux prefits and BugHoles.com does Bartlein.

I recommended Shilen or CBI but he has HEARD of Krieger..... Not sure that he is willing to cough up what its gonna cost, we will see. I myself would like to try a PacNor with the 5r rifling since he is paying.... :-) I may talk to him about Sin Arms as well. Thanks guys..... I couldnt find a lot of info yesterday afternoon on line. I will keep ya posted.

My buddy wants to keep up with another buddy who just picked up the Ruger Precision Rifle in 243..... Shot it this afternoon.... wow is it a shooter.....

Id go with a bartlein over a pac nor.

Cost for a 29" krieger blank...about $365 shipped
Chamber and thread about $300 bucks

Notice i said ABOUT....so tell your buddy hes looking at about $600 for a barrel.

I've been hammering with X-Caliber 8 twist chambered in 243Win. Just won a monthly precision rifle match on Sunday over the weekend.

My X-Caliber in 6.5 was shooting half MOA after the first box of ammo, even with shaky old me behind the trigger!

Just wanted to say thanks to all the replies. Looks like I have him talked out of the Krieger, cost and time, so we will see. We all three went to the range yesterday and my one buddy with the Ruger Precision was shooting under 1/4" groups with that rile the first time out with no load development. We are gonna be hard pressed to out shoot that I think. But we are gonna try. Cant wait to get my hands on one and I see that Sin Arms in offering barrels for them...... so a 243 off the store rack may be in order here shortly....

The Criterion b are are a branch of Krieger, call Jim at Northlander Shooting Supply, he's a sponsor on this site. Jim will treat you right and the Criterion barrel prices are in the $300 range

Pac-Nor makes an excellent barrel, but the best shooting prefit I've seen has been from Shilen. .243 Stainless Varmint contour was putting 3 shots in literally the same hole at 200 yards. Couldn't have been more than .25 MOA outside to outside.

ive been saying this for a few years..my long action 260 with a 28" shilen select will put 5 rounds in a .2925 hole at 100yds if im on my game...low .3s if im slackin.

Ruger Precision rifles are a top of the line machine held to really tight tolerances . I don't understand why pay so much for a rifle that will be shot out in 1500 rounds or less because 243 is known to eat barrels quickly.. I would encourage your friend to go with 6.5 Creed or 260 Rem.. As for the barrel there are lots of choices.. I have a McGowen Precision 260 Rem that has shot under a 1/4 inch at 100yrs.. Also have a ER Shaw in 30-06 that has done that well also..(5 shots @ 100yrs) Remember the machines making barrels today are so much better than those from years ago.. Most barrels these days will shoot better than the shooter themselves ...

Even if he gets it in 243 he'll be fine. I believe Hawk Hill Customs and Short Action Customs both are doing prefits for the RPR now.

I ended up putting on a CBI 28" bull barrel for him. To say it shot well is putting it very mildly. I shot three groups of three using 95 grain Berger VLD with IMR 4350 and the worst group was .6 best was .430. Then I switched to IMR 4064 and the first group was .191 followed by .135... followed by what was, key word there WAS, .060 till I totally shanked the last shot. The group still finished just a hair over .5. I am impressed to say the least. I have 3 other CBI barrels and they all shot outstanding.

Love my CBI 260 Barrel- Some of my proudest shots. Milk jug hit 2/6 rounds. Milk cap. And 1 lbs IMR powder container

Also a target I shot after installing a JEC brake. 2- 3 round groups shot back to back at 100 yards
