I maybe a little behind the times on it. Umm "264 win mag is a barrel burner"---says many people. This might make it look like a 223 lol.

PS:I don't Dare tell them what the 95gr Vmax's exit at.LOL

PPS: By far 107gr MK are my favorite they have a half decent BC and the velocity is in the stratosphere.

That's nothing new.....the guys over at Williamsport were shooting their version of that 50 years ago. They called it the 6.5-300 Weatherby Wright/Hoyer.

I knew there were some big 6.5 wildcats....I just didnt know Weatherby was jumping into it. Dean....well.....Im not even sure what to say lol😉

I'm surprised you haven't necked down a 375 H&H magnum to 6.5 yet lol

That would be a step down, The Rum case holds 22gr more powder than they 375 H&H case.

I stand corrected. What about something like a 408 cheytac or a 416 barret necked down to 6.5? Would that beat the 6.5 RUM?

It obviously could with it's horrendous amount of over bore, but you can fit it in a Savage Action.

The 375-408 Cheytac holds 160gr and the 416 Barret holds 200gr of powder so that is a no go, I don't even think a Weatherby 378 at 125gr could pull it off. I think the RUM case is it's max for a 6.5 anyways.

And as usual Sharpshooter gets the cigar. And yes a couple (fools) i knew tried it with the 378 case also.
B. t. w,Weatherby was also about 40 years behind with the introduction of the 30x378 cartridge.
Norma, introduced a good 139 gr 6.5 bullet in about 1950. Fred Huntington (rcbs) became the U S importer of those bullets.
A man by name of Wright, i think Paul Wright, who lived in Silver City N M, and who was a 1000 yd target shooter, chambered the first rifle for that cartridge.
He also was or at least had been, a Weatherby employee. Alex Hoyer who died in 1970 was from Lewisburg PA, also was a gunsmith and long range hunter.
When he heard about the cartridge, he sent his brother Jules who was living in Twin Falls MT. to visit Wright with the idea of buying the reamer from him.
An agreement was reached for Hoyer to chamber guns with it using the name 6.5x300 WWH (WEATHERBY,WRIGHT,HOYER for identifying the cartridge.
Ironticly Jules took the reamer to a gunsmith in Montana who chambered a rifle with it for him and Alex to use that fall.
It became the most popular long range hunting cartridge probably on the planet and remained so untill a man by name of Hornady introduced a better bullet. That being the 284 162 gr bthp.
After that, everybody having the 6.5s rebarreled to the 7x300 Weatherby cartridge when the old barrels went south.
I personaly never had a 6.5x300 Weatherby as by the time i was getting involved the switch was being made to the 7mm.
Another problem was that the Norma bullet had a lead core but a steel jacket. They worked very well for killing the PA deer, but the PA law said
and still says no bullet attracted to a magnet is legal for hunting. So the law made everybody using a 6.5x300 Weatherby an outlaw at that time in PA.
Today if you were to come here and ride around the canyon areas talking to long range hunters, i doubt you would find a single 6.5x300 Weatherby being used.
Like the 55 Chevys, their very nice for the sake of nostalgia, but dont be trying to make comparisons to modern equiptment.
