You experts out there.. a few basic questions on building a 338 edge from a savage 110 action..

1) Will it have to be a single shot or can/is magazine large enough?
2) small and/or large shank ok?
3) Standard magnum bolt head size, correct?
4) any tricks to getting the build off correctly?

Thanks!

1. Single shot is easiest, repeater is difficult and not worth the effort. Rem 700 is better suited.
2. Small shank is fine. Large shank is too, but not necessary.
3. Yep, regular magnum size. Same as 7mm Remington Mag and 300win.
4. Nope, minimum is a barrel swap. Single shot follower makes it better. New stock is better yet.

You'll get the best velocities with a 28" or longer barrel when shooting 300g bullets.

A long range round like this deserves good glass, don't skimp.

I did one with an accurate mag bottom metal and cip 3.850" length mag. Works good if you want a repeater. Can really only load to about 3.750" though as that's the actual inside measurement of the mag.

I took a 7mag off a Savage 110, unscrewed the barrel, screwed a 338 Edge barrel on it with no problem. It's one of the most accurate rifles I still own.

It's a single shot, but I am fine with that.

I would use a long action, you might have trouble unloading a live round using a short action.
