I just finished a build. I went from .223 to a 6.5x47 Lapua. I got the new mag, put on the bigger bolthead, and head spaced the new barrel. I had to grind off a little of the length of the extractor.

I took the rifle outside to cycle some ammo to be sure it would feed as well as my other 6.5 i built 2 years ago does. I believe the front baffle is too long. I can see that the bolt will not travel back far enough to pick up the next case. I looked at my other 6.5x47 and it has the shorter front baffle. That rifle started life as a .243 . I am guessing that the shorter .223 cases need that longer baffle and that i now need the shorter front baffle so my bolt will go back another 3/8 of an inch to properly pick up the next case.

Am I correct on this thinking, and is Savage Arms my only option to get one ? I suppose I can post a wanted add as well.

Brownells also has the correct baffle. I believe I paid less than $5.00.

Do as Sharpshooter suggests and what I do, grind off the bolt guide 'fin' then flip it over 180.

Holy crap!

I always thought Billpa was amazing, but I didn't know he could tell the future.

How else did he know what Sharpshooter was going to say?
