Guys i recently bought a savage 110ba 338 lapua and I'm looking for a scope, I can spend around $2000 but I want to make sure I'm not going overboard on this.
these are my 3 options, please let me know what you think or if I should considered something else:
nightforce shv 5x20x56 c535 elev 80 moa wind 50. $1299
nightforce nxs 5.5x22x56 c434 elev 100 moa wind 60. $1959
vortex viper PST 6x24x50. 624f1-a. $879

Can't go wrong with Nightforce. I am a sightron fan myself. I run a sightron SIII 6-24 x 50 LR Tactical With MOA 2 Retical on my 110 BA 338 LM. Also have same model in 3.5 -10 and 8-32. Never had a problem and all are very clear a track great. I've owned a viper pst and one viper hs. Experienced problems with both the hs and pst (elevation and focus knobs giving out and not adjusting- internal issues)

The sightron is available in first and second focal plane and with illuminated reticle if you desire. So the features once giving up to the vipers are pretty much mute now.

I run mine on the standard rail the ba came with and have 64 moa of elevation After sighting in. Which will do 1700 yards with my setup. You can run aftermarket rails with more slope built in the rail. Savages rail is more like 10 moa then the advertised 20. I'm dialed for 300 yd zero and can correct to any closer distance if needed 100 yds etc.

If you search the ammunition and reloading section here I did a nice write up of my load experience with 300 SMK. May be useful to you.

Only piece of advise is don't skimp on rings. Nightforce/ken farrel/ Leupold Mark 4 are the way to go.

Recently took a whitetail doe at 1000 yards with mine. The power in this cartridge is quit impressive

Good luck and happy shooting

So if I get the nf scope with. 100 moa do I need the after market rail? If I do what moa will it need to be? Does anybody know why the big difference in price between the 2 nf scopes? Is it worthy to spend $700 more to get 56mm lense and a few times more magnification?

I would call euro optic 570 368 3920 for any technical information on nightforce scopes.
They will probably also offer a discount after you talk awhile. check their website.
Also Bruce Baer is a gunsmith and stocking Nightforce dealer. He has as much knowledge as anyone on them also.
He will also install a zero stop in the elevation cap for about $40. Talk to him but dont mention my name or the price
might go up and not down lol. 717 349 4077
