Advice on buying Savage 12 single shot

I'm in the talks with someone buying a used savage rifle 12 single shot. I'm not sure what model this is actually though since the serial number doesn't show on the savage website. This might be expected though.. since he claims this rifle was from a batch or rifles for testing purposes. Could anyone identify which rifle this is?

Interesting. It looks like it was set up for Match or Palma at one stage of it's carreer. It is an older rifle for sure.

Anything interesting I should know about (how does it differ from the savage 12 etc.), how well it shoots ? I'm thinking of paying around 700$ CDN, ~500 USD for it.
