What does the BT stand for when looking at bolt handles? I understand SS stainless steel and RH right hand but can not figure out the BT. Does it have something to do with the round top and the flat top rear receiver?

Laminated thumbhole stock. Sorry I now see your Talking bolt handles and not stocks. I think it's "Black Tactical"

I'm not sure the BT actually means anything in the way of an acronym. BT style bolt handles are the larger round ball style handles available on many Savage models.

Thanks trappst, that's what I was needing to know. So it's kinda a factory option/upgrade.

Yep, some models have the BT handle from factory....mostly the varmint models I think. Sharp Shooter Supply (that's his pic) also sells them if you want to upgrade from the small knob.

Black Tactical

Savage uses the big black ball and Fred uses the elongated one.

They make them in Black and Stainless and the "BT" stands for "Ball Type"
They come on Varmint and Law Enforcement models and now the Long Range Hunter

Good answer!...but not quite correct. The first "BT" style bolt handles were standard bolt handles modified to accept a screw on black plastic ball. These were first introduced on the 112 BT target rifle(remember those?) Savage then decided it was easier and more cost effective to have them cast with big ball and the first model to sport them was the 210 shotgun.
They were dubbed the "BT" bolt handle because the first rifle they appeared on was the 112 BT.

I had one of those handles with the plastic ball on it, a LH version that was on my Striker. I was wondering what the ball was made of. It almost just looked like the factory ball was just dipped in something.

Sigh, read "Sharp shooter supply", and of course the next question will be where do I find them.
Top of the page where is says "visit our sponsors."
