There is no difference between the 270 & 30-06 if you are actually going to change it to a 308. The 270 is a necked down 30-06.
Despite what internet garbage you hear about the black beast of Oden, and armor plating; hogs aren't hard to kill quickly. Crappy marksmen are why they are "hard to kill".

Welcome to the brotherhood "jz". Are you sure an Academy store clerk is not just trying to make a quick sell?? Either choice can be converted to a 308. I would start making those hogs dead with whichever choice you make and take my time on the conversion.

Welcome to the forum jz. I have both a 111 30-06 and a 116 .270. I find the -06 more comfortable (and really fun) to shoot and am planning on converting the .270 to a .308 in the near future. Be aware that both the 30-06 and the .270 are a "long action" rifle and the factory .308 is a "short action". There have been quite a few long actions successfully converted to .308, but the short action cannot be converted to a 30-06/.270. Be careful, these rifles are an addiction for which there is no known cure.

Using a long action and 30-06 mag box for the 308 build allows you to seat the bullets out as far as you need to for accuracy and still feed well.

...while the COAL is restricted by the throat length...........

^^^ Hogs drop like everything else. Deer are actually harder to kill. Hogs are harder to kill with a bow though. Mainly due to that big hunk of shoulder that says "no" to any arrows trying to make it through unless you have good gear. My set up will still penetrate right through shoulder.

That being said, I've killed hogs with 22s and a head shot so you don't need a 50 cal to kill them
