Centerfeed action in a staggerfeed stock... issues? (Medalist)

Quick question, I'm wanting to throw a 110 L/A B&C Medalist on my .338 Hog Hunter, and I'm wanting to know if I'm going to run into problems? The rifle is a blind centerfeed, and the stock on some sites says staggerfeed, and on others there's no mention. I'm okay with some fitting, but I just want to know if I'm going to have to do any gross modifications to make it work. I searched and didn't really find much, so thanks for any input.

Yep, both LA's. I've been reading a bit, and it looks like an easy job. I'm no stranger to putting some work into things, just wanted to make sure it'd be feasible (such as inletting for the retaining clip and building up the sides of the mag, vs. alternate screw spacing or substantial inletting differences, stuff like that). Just ordered the B&C Olive/Black Webstock tonight, so I should have it done by the weekend.

Thank ya sir, I'm really looking forward to it. Apparently I got the only one Midway had, because after I ordered, it went out of stock. But, it shipped today, and if all goes as planned, and I can find a good lower-energy white tail load, this will become my "once and for all" hunting rifle.

Tactical Works is a great source for Savage parts. They offer the B&C Medalist.

Installing that barreled action in that stock will likely require opening up the barrel channel slightly.
You'll have a "High End Hog Hunter" then. B&C stocks are great pieces of equipment.

It's the Win Mag, they discontinued it this year. I actually was really wanting one for a couple of years, and kept seeing the .338 prices go down and down, and I finally bought at $430 or $440, somewhere around there. Fantastic rifle for the money, and it feels like a crime to be $450 OTD for it.

Heh, I've had the Savage bug for years, I just really want to downsize a bit. If I can work down to one or two bolt guns and a pile of ammo for them, I'll be happy.

Alright, so I still haven't milled out the area for the magazine retainer, or installed the trigger guard screw, but I did fit it elsewhere.

Opened the channel until I could slide a dollar bill, removed some of the "shelf" under the trigger, which was pressing on it and locking it out. Opened up the bolt handle slot, as it was just a hair tight, and for good measure, dropped it on the patio before it ever even got mounted because I'm an ape. So, the first knick is in, and it handled it well. Overall, I am in love. The thing feels solid, and it's rigid as could be in-hand (slight flex if forced)... I like my laminate and solid wood stocks, but this shames them. The wrist is the perfect diameter for me (a bit fat, which I like), the traction is good enough (I expected more), the cheek weld is fantastic, and the Pachmayr pad is, well.. a Pachmayr. I know it'll work well. Balance is good, they say the last couple inches of the butt is hollow, so you could add weight if you needed. I don't think I'll bother. It is head and shoulders better than the factory polymer stock, and while I had mild remorse for spending $300 on it, I absolutely see the value.

Truth be told, it has ruined everything else for me. I will be looking into making another one work on my other main hunting rifle, a 111 TH. It fit fine, but the bottom-release trigger guard needed some fitting, and there's a gap for the top-release lever. Other than that, it should work fine. So, I'll probably pick up a tan one for that rifle.

You can click for larger pictures, and I'll get some better ones soon. All I need now is to order the scope and mounts (Leupold FX-II 4x33), pick up a good whitetail/black bear load, and I've got this season's project done, maybe with a week or so to spare.

Alright. So attempts with a Dremel to inlet the rear "pillar" for the L-clip proved fruitless. I bought a set of Grizzly end mills (and decided on my Christmas gift this year while on the site :D), chucked them up in the drill press, and bam, job done. Almost... I still need to go just a hair lower to let me close on a full mag. But it won't take but a second, and still need to permanently fit the mag well. I actually have two nickels for front to back spacing in the well, and it worked flawlessly for me at the range (where I am now). I'll do it right though, hopefully this weekend. Leupold QD bases and rings ordered, should order the FX-II 4x tonight, and I'll be set for the season.

Overall, I'm so excited about this rifle. The new stock makes it a complete dream to shoot. That isn't an exaggeration, the pad and stock construction really make a noticeable difference in recoil compared to the factory stock. At first, I though I might be making a bad choice getting into .338, just to load it down for a comfy all-around load, but the thing shoots so smooth, I really do not think I'm going to bother reducing loads. I still haven't grouped it, but I put a spare ProStaff on it, just dry mounted, to see if I need a particularly long eye relief scope. Shouldn't be an issue at all.

I have that same stock that I'm using to build a 7mm Rem Mag. Currently I have the factory sporter barrel on it, but I'm looking to rebarrel it. My biggest question is what is the thickest contour barrel that will fit in that barrel channel and still have a free-floated barrel. How much sanding did you have to do? Could you post a "top view" picture so I can see how much of the channel is gone after sanding to fit the HH barrel?
