so boyds tells me that for my 111 trophy hunter xp bottom bolt release 30-06 i need the bottom metals. fine, i call savage. savage tells me i not only need that but the metal internal frame too. so the internal frame is $14 and the bottom metal assembly is $24. i asked savage if there is any mounting hardware i need for this and they say boyds should supply this? i ask boyds and they have no idea? all im trying to do is get a frickin wood stock for my rifle and neither boyds or savage seem to know what i need? has anyone been through this and can you help me out please? thanks for any info! :frusty:

You're going from one DBM stock to another, right?

You likely will just drop in. Unless Savage changed something, the 111 TH stock is still a DBM, and when you remove the action screws and remove the trigger guard, the bottom "metal" will separate from the stock. If Boyd's is telling you that that is what you need, then I would imagine you're good to go with the action screws, as well. It's not like they can significantly change the dimensions AND use the factory bottom metal.

A photo of the bottom of your rifle would help be sure, but I'd be confident in just buying the stock and nothing more.

The only part I have ever needed was the detachable box mag frame. Savage Part # 109399

Your in Luck, I put a Boyd's TH Stock on my 111 Trophy Hunter XP.
Here's what you need to order:
107217 TRIGGER GUARD ASSY MATTE RI $26.00
106706 FRAME ASSY, LONG ASSY MATTE NBR (DBM) $78.00
106104 MAG BOTTOM LONG MATTE (DBM) $24.00

All of the components are metal.
I installed the parts when the stock arrived but still have not bedded and pillared the the new stock, but it is gorgeous on the gun.
Good Luck.

Also, get a limbsaver grind-to-fit recoil pad purchase it too, you wont be sorry.

im going from my factory composite stock to a boyds prairie hunter stock. all for a savage 111 trophy hunter bottom bolt release detachable mag long action 30-06. i was told by savage i need "frame, long, syn, matte (dbm) part# 109399" $14 and "mag bottom long matte (dbm) part# 106104 $24. my question, is there any hardware needed to assemble these pieces into the new stock or will the existing hardware do the job? if not does boyds send the hardware that will work with the new stock? im already planning to get the limbsaver recoil pad with it also.

Those are the synthetic versions. That is all you should need. The action screws hold it all together.

Some of the earlier Savage factory stocks had a removable frame, but now that frame is molded into the stock... that is why you need 2 parts now when putting those into the Boyds stock. the frame and the magazine. there also might be a small metal pillar-like piece but it is not absolutely necessary.

Ah, so things have changed. Sorry for any confusion, SThomas.

This is from my (and I admit, I had to check the date, I thought it was more recent) 2012 111 .30-06. All parts necessary to retain the magazine are in the frame.

If thats what you currently have you should be able to slap that right in the boyds stock and be on your way. Looks to me like it should be just about as straight forward swap as one could ask for.

All of my metal components came with new screw hardware. I also replaced the plastic trigger guard with the metal one (maybe that is why I got screw hardware). It was well worth it IMHO. Dunno why they gave you a different frame part number from what I ordered (ordered June 2015). My 111 Trophy Hunter XP 30-06 is a 2015 model purchased the beginning of the year.

update is that i called savage again today and the gentleman i talked to questioned why i would need more than just the internal frame. he talked with a supervisor and said this is all i will need and that the "mag bottom" is just that, the bottom half of a magazine. since i am using the existing mag i dont need it. so i ordered my "internal frame" and a new boyds prairie hunter today. time will tell if this is everything i need . . .

That's right, if you ALREADY have an "axis Style" mag that has a plastic bottom and has a plastic clip attached to the mag, then you don't need anything more than the frame that attaches to the stock.
