The rating MU (Musician) was officially established in 1838.

If you are a MU - all you do is perform. You are attached to a band either INCONUS or OCONUS.

They are selected to Chief based on their skills as against others in the rate, just as any other rate selects Chiefs.

It was a joke Chief. We used to do that in the Goatlocker a lot, joke around.

Wasn't directed at you, just sharing info as a lot of people really have no clue the Navy has bands.

Very difficult rate to get into. Can't say as I ever personally knew a MU...

As for the joking around - hard to "read" that on a message board sometimes.
