Bought a new Axis on Friday and finally had a chance today to sit down give it a one over, and noticed the Safety was not working correctly. The plastic two position tab seemed to be stuck pretty darn good , so I pulled the Trigger and Sear off to take a closer look underneath. Since I wasn't exactly sure what wasn't working I pulled the spring out that holds the safety bar underneath and then gave the plastic tab a good whack and it came loose. Still don't see a good reason why it was stuck, the raceways were free of any gunk, who knows.

But onto the problem, what is the best way to reinsert the spring that holds the safety bar in place?

That spring looks whack to me.

I would call savage customer service, tell them what happened and that the spring is "Scrunged-up / scrunched-up".

There is a trick to replacing them... get something like a dental pic, push the pic thru the hole (from the outside of the bracket) and then put one end of the spring over the pick (from the inside of the bracket)... then push the spring toward that same hole and it should slide into the hole the pick is in then slip the other end into the hole on the other side.

The spring should be shaped more like a football with a couple knobs on either end.

Maybe that was the cause of the problem with my safety. I will give Savage a call tomorrow and see if they can ship a new spring pronto!!
