Anyone try this combination before? I really want a scout rifle in .223.

Get a good fiberglass stock, put a McMillan system on it where a rail is bolted with about 12 bolts to the stock, get a real good bedding job, and I think you'll be in business. I can't find what that rail is called. I think they call it a system but look up pictures of McMillan TAC series rifles. They usually show them with it. I think they make mounts for savage that allow you to put the scope out that far but that seems like a good way to end up with something broke

Nope, not without having a gunsmith drill and tap holes in your barrel for the front mounting screws. The Scout mount uses the stock front mounting screw locations and then two more mounting screws in the barrel about where a front sight would normally be mounted. Barrel contour may or may not be an issue as well as the barrel on the Scout isn't really a Varmint or sporter weight, it's somewhere in between. It's a little smaller than the Predator barrel profile so it's probably closer to a heavy or magnum sporter contour.
