This was suggested to me by another member on this site via PM.

Caliber - 224
Case - 204 Ruger (note, 204 Ruger is a necked down 222 Magnum)
Chamber is a 223 AI, but deeper (used my 223 AI reamer, and just went a little deeper)

Couple of points to remember....

222 Magnum is known as the Triple Duece.

P.O. Ackley...well...google him and find out what he added to the shooting/wildcat world.

223 AI - just the reamer that I used.

Reason behind this? Using a 8 twist Shilen stainless select match heavy sporter, I wanted a rifle that a person COULD carry.

Used a new Stevens action, squared the face, lapped the lugs, installed a stainless lug from Jim at Northlander's, Shilen 1:8 twist Stainless Select Match barrel heavy sporter contour in 224, and bedded this in a B & C Duramaxx.

So....help me name this puppy.

Forgot to add...you are more than welcome to add your own name, does not have to be from the list.

I was thinking 222 magnum AI but then I was thinking maybe 222 magnum PI. It kinda has a nice ring to it.

LOL!....so far, so good. 3x fired cases...hopefuly 4x fired by the end of the weekend.

I doubt I will have any issues with loose primer pockets, just like the 223 AI's that I shoot. Using Remington 204 Ruger brass.....necked up and fireformed.

I should pull the barrel and throat it 0.060-0.075" more....we shall see. The junction of the bearing surface and boat tail of the bullet is at the base of the neck now. Would like it to be out a touch further.

Of note...nothing earth shattering....but 80 gr AMax's at 3000 fps should provide some good whack downfield. I loaded 50 rounds with H414

Benchmark off my chronograph:

5 3064.3 26.3
6 3108.2 26.5

I like "222 Ackley magnum".

Ackley or P.O. "Deuce" makes me think in a slightly more negative manner.

Quick trip to the range this evening. This was not benchrest shooting...just putting up some shots at 300 yards to check drop of bullet from 100 to 300.

This is a 4 shot 300 yard group from a warm barrel. I fireformed the last 25 rounds of brass, shot 10 rounds at 100 to zero the scope, and then commenced to this 300 yard group. This is a 2" by 2" paper I cut from the target and taped to the gunsafe.

Keep the ideas coming.....Thanks in advance.

PD report. Spent the afternoon at one of my favorite "honey hole" fields of prairie dogs.

Well...80 gr Amax's do fly well and have the other attributes when "taking pictures" (that is what I tell the wife I am doing...).

Several shots just over 385 yards were nice when comparing my 223 AI running 55 gr VMAX's at 3550.

Barrel cleaned up rather nicely.

Loaded my 80 formed brass with RL15 this time.

Still want to throat this barrel a touch more.
