In shopping for my first silencer I noticed you have to decide up front for a direct thread on OR one that attaches to a muzzle device purchased from the silencer manufacturer of whatever brand you choose.

This got me to thinking about how odd / neat it would be to be able to try and use it on my striker, which brings up the thread specs on my striker.

I'm finding conflicting thread specs listed by different forum members and one barrel mfr website.

Most say the threads are (an odd ball) 9/16-28 , while a few say they are the standard 5/8- 24.

The gun in question is a .308 516 with the factory muzzle brake.

I'm not sure I can find a can that can handle a .308 barrel of such short length, but it would be worth knowing anyways.

Thanks for the help.

Look at the spec from the silencer web sites.

Call savage about the thread specs

It is the odd ball 9/16-28 thread, not the 5/8 24, FYI

The common size is 9/16-24 its either lh or rh.... call savage for proper spec if its factory.

if you are having it threaded, get the silencer in 5/8-24 and buy a quality adapter turned threaded and talped in one op.

Thanks for the help.

That adapter would do the trick ifn they offered it in 9/16-28.

I will consider that adapter in the 1/2"-28 to use the 7.62 can on a 5.56 AR.

This would keep me in a direct thread set-up but open up my options to more than one caliber.

Thanks for the link.

00buck.
If you scroll down the page you would see that the 3rd and 4th items are the size you want. In the black or stainless.

Unless I'm missing something, those look to be for the 24 thread per inch 9/16, not the 28tpi needed for the striker.

I googled it and could not find an adapter that went from 9/16-28 to 5/8-24.
I did find a thread on another forum where a member was looking to have a gun smith make on, so it doesn't appear to be an off the shelf item.

I might have one made later down the line.

Thanks for the help once again.

Or just pick up a takeoff barrel in the classified. Then have that barrel cut down and threaded to whatever you want.
