Anybody here own one? What can you tell me about this round. I am looking to have a light weight little brother to my Model12 25-06 AI.

Great round - accurate with a lot of combinations accross the whole 257 bullet weight range. No bad habits that I have found and will probably replace your 25-06AI after you realize how close you can come to the 06's velocity with so much less powder and fuss.

It's just a round that ya gotta have. It's easy to load for. Just buy all the R-15 you can find. Fireforming loads are very accurate also. My .250 AI is a striker that is quickly replacing alot of long guns. Mine likes hornady 100 gr soft points and the 75 grain v-maxs. I fireform with 2015 or 2230 and the bullet jammed into the lands. It does real well on antelope. Going to try mule deer in a couple weeks. dave

Sounds like I found out where my next barrel is coming from. Gotta get a .250 AI rifle barrel. dcl

Devin,

You are starting to get a little TOO convenient.

BTW, For you guys thinking about a barrel or having some work done on a barrel that you already have, SinArms work is first rate and very fast.

What length barrels are you guys running on your 250 AI. I would like to stay in the 22" range.

Mine is a 24" sporter. Its built only as a whitetail rifle and I only use 100s, the old Nosler SBs or Sierra PHs. With RL-15, Fed 215s, and Win brass it averages just over 3200, 5x5 average.

I try to make Savage customizing as easy and cheap as possible.

Is the action long enough in a Stevens model 200 in .223 to be converted to the 250 AI ? what all would be needed if it is.
New bolt head and Magazine are a givin, where can I find a magazine ?
anything else needed for this conversion ?
We have a very small framed grandson, shot his first deer with the .223 during this past youth hunt, it did ok but would like a little more bullet with not much more recoil. and I like the way my 25-06 kills, seems like the route to go ..

What would a 6mm-250AI be called? Would it be suited for a short barrel?
Would make a very nice deer rifle I bet. Lots of new bullets on the market now that werent available when I was shooting the 243.

I am pretty sure all the Savages come factory with a 250 Savage barrel are short action so yes you could do the swap. If you are a reloader I would look at the 6x45mm, it takes a 223 case and necks up to 6mm. You would gain alot of bullet and not to much recoil. The 250 or 250ai would be quite an increase in recoil over the 223.

It is in increase in recoil over the 223 - but it is still really gentle. If he can shoot a light 410 or a 20 gauge auto he can handle the 250AI. One of the best all around cartridges I have played with.

Thanks for the input guys, he handles a 20 auto pretty well so the 250 AI shouldn't be a problem
