so I was reading on the highroad about savage axis boyds stocks and a guy said you have to call savage and order metal plates for the mags and a few other things because the boyds stocks wont accept the plastic mag plate.

is this true? I want a boyds but if I have to dump $100 in the stock and $140 in the mag plates, etc I will have the cost of my gun.

When you receive the Boyd's stock, it is ready to bolt in and go. The stock has an insert to accommodate the magazine. Mine was a pretty snug fit, but no problems (other than its inherent shortcomings from the factory, I'm not a fan of the magazine design).

just to clarify the plastic, factory mag fit in the wood stock and locked.

Yes it will. I have a Boyds Featherweight Thumbhole and the factory plastic mag works just fine .

i got the "classic stock" and there is no bottom metal or plastic to install, just your mag after you mount your barreled action. everything fit well and haven't had any problems. not sure if this is the same for the thumbhole stock as i don't have one.
