Savage hs precision .308

did savage ever make this gun with a fluted barrel without a muzzle break? I have a guy trying to sell me one but all I see are these guns with muzzle breaks, before I buy I want to make sure it's all factory and not some job he has done himself.

I personally have not seen one with a brake from Savage. I added one to mine.

I also have never seen one with a fluted barrel.

OP, why are you scared of it being "non-factory"? You do realize what rifle and what web board you are dealing with, right?

Exactly, not everyone knows what they are doing as far as rebuilding goes. Don't want to pay for something altered that may effect performance

I have a 2 model 10,s
Ones and Model 10 with an HS stock,24" tube fluted,threaded. 1-11.25 twist
the other is a K model. same as above but 1-10 twist.
That being said...there both fluted and threaded for brks. the only one I own that's not threaded is my Model 12 LRP in 260.
Good to be inquizative.
Im gonna have to research this some more.

Not everyone here wants to rebuild a rifle. Rebuild....To take apart and put back together as from the factory or by changing things to create something different than a factory build. This implies it is together and must be or has been taken apart

The model 10 Fcp hs precision I had was a standard varmint contour 24" non-fluted/non-threaded matte finish barrel

I've done a little research but all I've seen in 308 fluted is a threaded tube. Interesting. Maybe a serial number search?

Ditchbank if you have access to the rifle i suggest you look at the barrel and see if A: it is a savage barrel.. B: the writing lines up properly above the stock... not lining up would indicate the barrel has at least been off even if it is original... C: it will also have the model roll stamped on the barrel

It could be a special run for a company such as gander mountain or bass pro....ect.......

Just looking at the roll stamp i would say it has not been altered. Hard to get it all lined up the second time around. If it shoots good and you like it go for it.

You can also put the serial # in the savage parts finder and it will tell you what the rifle started life as. savage parts finder is here---
