Hello all! I have a sweet Savage 14 American Classic in 250 Savage. Looks like no one makes a Snap Cap for that caliber. Any suggestions? I guess some shooters make their own snap caps out of empty brass? Could/would a 22-250 snap cap be adapted to work?

I would use the tight wad method and make my own. As far as using a 22-250 I would need to refer to the gauge dimension of the angle to be sure. I've made 250 Savage brass but not 22-250 brass, but I think the only difference is the neck diameter and not the gauge dimension.

Sure, you can buy-use a 22-250 or make your own. Take an empty case, fill the primer pocket level with RTV, allow it to cure and you have a snap cap.

Bill,

Good idea...I wondered about replacing the primer with silicone rubber. I may never buy a snap cap again. Off to the garage I go!

Thank you!

I've also heard of using a cut down pencil eraser glued in the primer pocket. Bills' idea sounds faster and easier though.

Bills' idea sounds faster and easier though.

My boss at the Mars plant used to say "If you want to find the easiest way to do a job, get the laziest guy to do it".

I don't know why, but for some odd reason he always seemed call me!
