border patrol??

Does anyone know what the thinking is to having our border patrol 50 miles OFF the border?
Who's idea was this, and why?

This is not a political thread, so please don't make it one. I'm just trying to understand why anyone thought this was a good idea.

TexasSolo, I think as porous as the border has become (for quite some time now) that the old notions of a distinct line in the sand is gone. The border has become a "transition zone" and in turn, the Border Patrol has expanded their reach. I will refrain from discussion about my opinions on why as it would absolutely be a political discussion.
