I'm getting ready to put on my .338-06 barrel and dont have any headspace gauges and I've always used fl sized brass in the past, but I havent received my .338-06 dies from midway yet and was wondering if I can use fl sized .30-06 brass for a headspacing gauge? The reason I'm curious is there is 1 go-gauges for for all the 06 calibers, so I figured brass would be the same. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Yes you could, but that would be using brass sized with your 30-06 die - your 338-06 die may be slightly different and to get "optimal" HS you might want to re-do it with sized 338-06 afterward.

Sure, its only a '06 necked up as long as its an unaltered version, Improved and etc. The chamber headspace spec is the same and as long as the body diameters (Chamber - brass) don't give you a false indication.

BTW...Make sure you clean the chamber, boltface, locking lugs, abutments and gage(s) before setting the barrel up.

Thanks for the help, I may just wait till tuesday when my dies arrive, I cant shoot it till I get ammo loaded up anyways. I'm just anxious to get this project finished.

you get the best result with a fired and then re-sized case, so I would be looking at redoing it any way after I got a couple fired cases to work with.
