So other than changing bolt heads & barrel, is there anything else I'd need to change on a Stevens 200 to convert from '06 to 7 mag?

I've just picked up the rifle & have a hankering for a skinny magnum. No particular reason other than I don't have one!

Is there any other chambering you'd recommend to scratch my silly itch? I've already got a couple of 6.5s that cover 99% of my hunting needs & .308 & .223 that covers everything else...

30-06 to 7RM only needs the bolt head and barrel changed.
As a side issue to Savage's QC, you may or may not want to change the box mag/follower. I've done plenty of 7RM's to 25-06, 6.5 Creed, 22-250 and never had to change, so just give it a whirl.

You can go .280 or .280AI with the same bolt head as '06, and have essentially the same as 7mag, but more efficiency. Just a suggestion.
Not knocking the 7 Mag, though. I have one and like it.

Ooooh.... I didn't think about .280ai!

Looks interesting. 7 mag ballistics with .308 ish recoil.

Hmmmmm......

You MIGHT have to swap the magazine as well. Having said that when I swapped an '06 to 338WM I swapped the mag but I found the original worked a little better.

That 280 AI DOES sound like a sweet round. I had a 280 once, but it was an H&R and the safest place to be with that rifle was right in front of the barrel, cause the bullets went everywhere else. Recoil was less than the 110 '06 I have though, at least before my Kick Eze recoil pad install.
