Just picked up a model 10 22-250 I'd like to convert to 6.5 Creedmoor for a light-ish hunting rig. I see ER Shaw has kits with everything needed to do the switch but can't find any in this caliber. Do the kits still exist or what would be my other options as far as inexpensive sporter barrels?

Gun shack usually has McGowen sporter contour creedmoor barrels in stock

Apache Gun Works does EXCELLENT work for less cost than anyone I know. Jim started this business as a simple hobby geered toward building inexpensive but high quality shooters for himself and friends and now offers his service nationally. He is great to deal with. He specializes in building great hunting barrels with less expensive blanks. He has a good story on his website.

Currently he is not taking orders, but he will be doing so again before too long. check him out: http://apachegunworks.com/reamers.html

I bought my heavy barrel Shaw from GunShack. Wasn't a kit, but I've done enough, that a factory case works just fine for me.

Sent him a quote request just now

Any idea how long until apache is accepting orders?

It varies with Jim (Apache). His goal is to not fall too far behind. He shuts down orders till he catches up and then opens again for a few days. For a while he would shut down as quick as he got a certain number of orders (sometimes only a matter of a few hours) and he found that there were people who would always get shut out b/c they were not able to "Camp out" to be there to get their order in. Now he leaves it open longer even though that means he gets more orders than he can fill immediately.

No matter what he does or how he tries, he can't make it good or easy for everyone. He does to good work, though, and he does it fairly quickly. I'd say if you can keep checking, and get on the next list, you can probably have one by end of August maybe??, which is far better than other sources that do custom work. Those sources would be several months if you're lucky.

You might also try Jim Walters at Bison Gun Works.
I couldn't find anyone cheaper or quicker.
Turnaround on my 6.5x55 was 4 weeks & it's a tack driver!

I picked up a factory sporter barrel for a build a while back. I was able to develop a hand load that is a consistent 1/2 moa load in it. You might keep your eyes open for one of those.

E. Arther Brown has E.R. Shaw kits available in .260 Remington its not a Creedmoor but offers the same performance and is available. I picked one of these up a couple weeks ago for $255 delivered.

Thanks everyone, have a takeoff on the way. Planning on building a heavy barrel down the line and will look at something fancier from Apache or Bison when I get my hands on another receiver
