I noticed it doesn't have the traditional savage Barrel nut. So I was wondering if anyone has removed the barrel and if so how easy was it to remove. Thinking about putting a different barrel on it eventually.

The easiest way I have found is just cut it off and replace it with a notched one.

+1, cut it off. I did get one off using Kroil and a pipe wrench. Still sacrificed it and bought a grooved one to replace it.

I use a pipe wrench and replace with slotted one. I used to cut them off, but the pipe wrench has been a lot easier for me.

Still need an action wrench and / or barrel vice, though.
