Savage 99 automatic cutoff issue

I have a Savage 99 with the leaf spring style cutoff. The cutoff seems to extend out too far so that it makes contact with the empty case as it is being extracted and causes the extractor to release the case. I have checked the spring placement and it is correct - any clues to why this is happening?

Well I bit the bullet so to speak and broke out the old dremel tool and put a gentle rounding on the leading edge of the cutoff. Tried some old empties and it seemed better - need to get out and try it with live ammo.
