Hello, new guy with first post...

I picked up a new Stevens 200 in 270 win with the center-feed system the other day for a good price. I bought it with the intent to build something else as I already have an older Savage 110 in 270.

I'm seriously interested in building it into a 300 win mag. I'm just going down my list to make sure I have all my bases covered BEFORE I start and would like to bounce it off the experts here to make sure I'm not missing something.

1. Barrel
2. Bolt head
3. New stock (Boyd's) & hardware
4 Steel trigger guard
5. Probably an aftermarket trigger, but not sure yet.

My main question is, will I have an issue with current bolt with new bolt face with the center-feed system in 300 win mag? Recoil lug?

Thanks for any replies,

Jerry

Welcome to the site. Congrats on the new buy.

- You will also need a new magbox and follower unless you plan to shoot it as a single shot. Then you just need a single shot follower.

- If your Stevens is brand new it is most likely a centerfeed mag system, so a Boyds stock will have to be modified a tad to fit it. Theres a notch at the rear pillar for a bracket to fit in that holds the magbox in place. The other thing the stock could need is the magbox set in at the right height since it mounts into the stock.
*FYI, check with Stocky's gunstocks as they sell stocks just like a Boyds and also make them for centerfeed systems.
-When you change the bolthead be sure to check the firing pin protrusion. The mag bolthead may be thicker.

pdog06 covered everything very well. I would also add a milled recoil lug to the list.

Do you have the barrel nut wrench?
