I'm currently building a 338 Edge off of a 111 LRH in 338 Lapua (Closed top action)

My question is, can I use a 110BA's 0.500" bolt head? Or does my LRH action require a 0.550"?

Just to clarify, I'm not asking about rim diameter, I'm asking about the bolt lug size.

Thanks!

Jon

Bolt lug size won't matter for the Edge. You most likely won't find a .550 lug that will work, so you're pretty much stuck with the .500. What WILL matter is the length of the firing pin. If your firing pin is threaded, and not the one piece axis style, you'll need to reset the firing pin protrusion for the shorter bolt head lugs.

Great thank you!

Are they're any safety concerns? Would 50 thou less bolt lug be any weaker over time?

You'd just have to keep an eye on the lug setback over time. There are a lot of 338 Edge conversions out there, and I've seen nobody complain of bolt lug setback yet, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.
I believe I saw an Ultra Mag factory bolt head with .550 lugs, and if I remember correctly, Scope Eye had it. It may be worth checking out.
