Late model Axis bolt head.

This is the first time I've had to change one out due to wear.
In fact, I never thought I'd ever wear one out.

Do they interchange with any of the 10 / 110 models?

Somebody help the old guy out.

I just found out reading is fundamental.

If I'm reading it correctly, Axis is the same as the 10 series or short action.

How am I doing so far?

Gun Shack sells them for $32 but you still have to buy the extractor an ejector components. By the way I'm curious why do you need 6 of them.I think you're up to something 😃

I just rec'd an order from Gunshack with several 110 bolt heads and ejector / extractor kits.
Sunday while shooting my new .308 barrel (supplied by Apache Gun Works & Plumbing Supply) the spent case kept falling off the bolt head. Even after I replaced the extractor twice & ejector once.

I noticed the ejector wiggles inside the hole & brass cases are barely hanging on the extractor. It's got about 2.738 Quadrillion rounds on it so I guess it wore out prematurely.

No problem. I'll replace all 6 of them and save the bolt heads that have low mileage. The rifles that only have about 6.1 million rounds or less thru them.

With temps at 115 - 120 it would STILL be about 15 degrees cooler than my house if I bought 6 more rifles.
I'd need that cot you're offering as long as it comes with the brackets for traction and broken bone suspension.

A word about the interchangeability of the Axis/110 series boltheads. I just converted an Axis 7mm-08 down to a .223. I used a bolthead from a model 12 .223. The 10/110 series has a small lip or flange on the bolthead that is not present on the Axis models. There is a groove cut into the action of the 10/110 series at around the 5 o'clock position if you are looking from the rear of the action into it with the bolt removed. This groove cut to accommodate the lip, flange, or whatever it's called is not present in the Axis action, therefore the bolt head will not fit into the action without modification. I had to grind the lip off of the bolt head with a bench grinder, and polish it up so that It will fit into the Axis properly. Just thought I would throw that out there.

The "lip" is not on the bolthead. The "guide fin" as it is called, is on the front baffle. The Axis does not use a guide fin.

And some bolt bodies (older) are keyed to fit a slot cut in to the bolt head stem / shaft.

All of these things & more are reasons why Mr. Dremel has been in business so long...

How do you know if the bolt head is worn out? For that matter what is a Savage floating bolt head and how is it different from other manufacturers? This is my first bolt action rifle.

Anything here that's unclear I'm sure one of our resident Savage Gurus can 'splain it better.

As for wearing it out, I can't tell you how many rounds have been chambered with that particular bolt head. It's been on 4 different calibers. I've changed the extractor 3 or 4 times, including the larger detent ball and the ejector.
The brass doesn't always come out when I pull the bolt back. It just kinda falls off the bolt head & lays there.
Almost sounds a little like my 3rd ex-wife...
