ok guys...so I have a bunch of 110/10 series rifles and have changed barrels and calibers back and forth in almost countless configurations. Short to long, long to short, .223 to .243, 6.5 Creedmoor to .223, etc. I recently came across a smoking deal on a 7mm-08 youth axis with a Leupold VX3 3-9x40 scope on it for $300. After selling the scope, I have about $100 in the rifle. New project! So I don't really have a lot of need for the 7-08, so I am thinking of putting a ridiculously accurate model 10 barrel I have laying around on it. On a 110 series, I would replace the bolthead, use a different magazine box, and with some gauges I would be good to go. Same here with the Axis? If anyone's done a .308/.243 series down to .223, I'd love to hear what you did, how it went, and where did you get your parts?!

thanks!

Just did an Axis 22-250 to .204 Ruger conversion, and the method is the same as you outlined on the 110 Series. Ended up buying the bolt head and parts from GunShack, and used 4-D to rent the Go and No-Go Gauge. For the magazine/follower traded with a member here and I was good to go.

Here is what I did and how it is going...

Yo! thanks Rosco! That's exactly what I was looking for. Me thinks I will pick up a bolthead from GunShack (ordered from them many times) and see if I can also dig up the magazine and follower for .223.

So wait a minute.....are the boltheads the same for the Axis series as they are for the 110/10? Interchangeable?

110 bolt head has longer shank, stick with 10 & it will work.

Short Round is right, you can't use the LA Bolt heads on the Axis they require the SA 10/11/12/14 series versions. The .223 however only comes in the SA version these days so you should be good to go. If you happen to find one the older LA .223 bolt heads let me know I want one :)
