I am building a 6.5x284 on a savage long action staggerfeed flat back. I have already picked up a bell and carlson stock. I have found a barrel in a cm. What is the difference between a cm barrel and ss barrel other than finish? Which one is better?

Stainless

Neither is better unless you live in the tropics or have humidity issues.
I prefer stainless myself only because I live in the PNW.
Just make sure when you're shopping for a 6.5 barrel that cm doesn't stand for Creedmore unless that's what you want.

SS barrels don't erode as baddly as CM barrels...they have a longer Service life, theyseems to be easier to clean...and while they WILL rust they rust LESS!
