I have a Savage Model 99 chambered in
.300 Savage that I'd like to put in service as a hunting rifle. The gun belonged to my grandfather and I have only shot it once. From what I remember it was very accurate at 100 yards at rest.
I need to pull it out of the safe to see if it's drilled and taped for a scope mount.
Advice and recommendations will be highly appreciated.
First, my advice is don't drill and tap it if it hasn't been done, great way to ruin the value . Second, give us more info on it, serial #, barrel length, etc.

Serial number is 419812, dating it to 1946.

It does not appear to be drilled. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06/09/03d36f9a2e1297a70bd678c10f70d376.jpg

Looks to be a 24" barrel.

Maybe a 99G?
Looks like an EG. G's weren't made in 46' and its not a takedown best I can tell, in fact I think any 99's made in 46' would be rare.

Please don't D&T it! That's in very nice condition for it's age and it even has most of the case coloring left on the lever indicating it wasn't used much.

I've decided to keep it as-is. It was my grandfathers then my dads. It's staying the way it is.

A peep sight would really sit well on that rifle. That is a first rate tool that has been well taken care of.
