Have a 300 rum and I'm wanting to build a 7wsm...mainly because I have a ton of wsm brass and I have another rum so I wouldn't be losing anything.

Yes you can, and it will also allow you to seat the bullets out really far.

Just a barrel switch is all I would need?

Just a heads up, 7mmWSM uses a different head space gauge than they other WSMs.

A barrel swap is all it takes.

Just make sure your RUM is a large shank if you're using a large shank WSM barrel.

I have a several RUM and WSM all are small shanks.

all of todays wsm are built on large shanks from what I gather. old ones were small shanks. be careful what you have and what you buy

That's what I'm saying, assuming his 7WSM would be a large shank.

let me rephrase......
Make sure the barrel you buy has the same thread as your action, be it large or small shank.

It's small shank. I've built several savages so I'm not gonna mix large and small...really just wondering if I needed a different bolt head but I didn't think I did...just a bbl swap.

My 300 rum bbl is from bison gunworks and I can't get a good group with it and I'm usually really good at finding a loaf for a new bbl but this one is XXXXXX me off...waisting a lot of retumbo and that **** is hard to come by. And I don't have a 7mm in my stable and have always wanted one for a light weight elk rifle.

You could just edit the original post to fix the spelling........

I have 2 WSM's built on small shanks, but both are short actions. You should have no problem whatsoever building one on a small shank long action.

Like I told Dean I start with grains and find what groups the best then I work on seating depth to tighten my group and it always works to get one hole 5 rd groups but this is the first barrel it won't work on and groups are inconsistent so I can't find a load and I'm tired of waisting money on it. I'm not looking to fix this bad fouling non grouping bbl I'm looking at going to a .284 caliber since I have another 300 rum that has no problems.

Hence the thread title "Can you build a WSM on a long action"
And no thanks, I edited the language out of yours instead.
