Hi y'all,

New to the forum. Got an issue with my savage 16. Not sure of the official model designation but it's stainless barrel, synthetic stock and a hinged floor plate.

My issue is, the rear screw for the trigger guard has stripped out. It won't grab anything. Can this be fixed, or is it wise to buy a new stock.

If a new stock is needed, can anyone recommend a good one. 95% of it's use is for hunting.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Devcon, epoxy, JB Weld can all be used to fill the hole, then drill it slightly undersized and run the trigger guard screw back in.

Do I need to sand it at all or just put the epoxy in it and let it dry?

You shouldn't need to rough it up, the stripped hole should be plenty rough to allow the epoxy to make a firm grip.

Awesome. I will give it a try. Does the epoxy drying time matter at all? Are the slower drying ones better to use or should any of the plastic ones work?

Any should work. You don't need to tighten the screw very much, it just needs to hold the rear of the trigger guard to the stock.
