Looking at my Ideal (Lyman) reloading manual #36 published 1949 (original price 50 cents) I see the "well tried" method of cleaning cartridge brass inside and out, good as new.
It recommends a five second soak in a mixture of one quart water with two oz. of sulphuric acid and two oz. of Potassium Bichromate followed by a clear water rinse, and then five second soak in a mixture of one quart water with one quarter pound of Sodium Cyanide followed by a clear water rinse.
And it warns that if you accidentally mix the two together, you'll find you self sitting next to a lethal "gas chamber".
I picked up this book along with two other similar vintage books full of really OLD pics of bullets, reloading tools, telescopic sights, and loading info.
Very entertaining!
