Gentlemen,

I'm somewhat new to savage rifles, but I have swapped barrels. Changed my Savage 10 308 to 7mm-08. My question is, will I have to change magazine, spring and follower along with the bolt head and barrel to change from 7mm-08 to .223? Also where could one find the bolt head and mag parts needed. I know Northland has some barrels.

Thanks for your help,
Bobby

I changed my M200 from .243 to .223, I purchased my bolt head from Midway because I wanted it quick. Got the mag box from SSS. Hope that answered your question. Welcome

revbc If you set your head space you should be good to go. The 7-08 is a 308 necked down to 7 MM so all other dimensions should be the same IIRC. Therefor just feed them in the magazine, chamber a round, sight and SHOOT.

By the way WELCOME TO OUR HAPPY HOME

Bobby Welcome To The Savage Site If You are Going To Play With The Savage Guns You May want To join the site as a paid Member it would be well worth it for You . As for if you change from 308 or 7mm08 to 223 you will need to change the Magizine and Follower Bolt head and Ft baffle . SSS, Midway,Stockade , Brownnelles , or Savage would have the Parts You need Hope this Helps You Out DD

Bobby,

Note: If you purchase a 223 bolt head from Midway, it is not complete. The one I ordered a couple of months ago came with the extractor, ball and spring assembled, but did not have the ejector, spring and pin. You may also want to get an extended rear baffle to put behind the 223 bolt head to shorten up bolt stroke. Sharp Shooter Supply sells a complete bolt head and any other parts you need. It's a PITA to have to change all those little parts back and forth from bolt head to bolt head. And if you don't disassemble the bolt head in a plastic bag, parts will shoot out never to be found again.

If you have a Savage centerfeed, SSS also makes a custom single shot adapter that fits like a glove and would work for 223, 7mm08 and 308 if you don't need a repeater for small caliber bench shooting. LOL.
