A friend of mine asked if I would be willing to load some 22 Hornet for him. I agreed to help, and asked for what kind of gun so I could do some research beforehand.

Turns out it's a vintage (30's or 40's, I suspect) Savage model 25D. In my brief research, I discovered some debate as to the size of the bore on said rifle. Some claim it's .223, others say .224. Does anyone here know for sure?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Best.

If you read my initial post and were confused, it's because I did not state the correct model number. The gun is a Savage Model *23D* sporter, not 25D.

Also, I may have found the answer to my question... From what I understand, Savage made the 22 Hornet bores .223" until roughly 1960, after which time they went to the more common/modern .224".

It seems to be widely accepted that either .223" or .224" projectiles can be safely fired from this weapon, and lil'gun powder is the preferred propellant.

If I'm in error about any of this information, don't hesitate to educate me on the facts.
