bought myself a hog hunter today, what should i do with..

adjustments when its home? i'll be using it for hunting deer and pigs. trigger is prefect for me. any mods i should do with the stock? i want to keep the stock since i can see myself falling on it and would break it if it was wood.

I recently bought a hog hunter in 223 rem and the only things I did was install a one piece rail, and Weaver Kaspa 1.5X6. I then thoroughly cleaned the barrel, ran a wet patch of LockEase down the barrel. Lastly I loosened the action bolts, placed the rifle vertically to get the recoil lug against the stock and tightened the front bolt to 30"lbs and the rear bolt to 20"lbs.

Off to the range for 1st 5 rounds, clean barrel, then 5 rounds for grouping. The only problem I had was that it took me 5 rounds to zero

As far as mods to the stock may want to do a skim coat of bedding if you aren't happy with how it groups straight out of the box.

You might contact 390fe on this forum. He shoots a bone stock (as far as I know) hog hunter and consistently rings the 550 yard gong at our local range.

I picked up my gun, just installed the ar10 a2 flash hider. maybe range trip next week to see how well it shoots.

I bought me one hog hunter yesterday in 308. There are some excellent qualities in this gun.

I will be putting a two piece mou t for now since it will be easier to load and a leupold vx-r 4x12 that I have sitting around.

I am still thinking of adding a muzzle brake for those follow up shots but I have to do some research first. Any ideas?

for now I am not considering other changes as I wanted this rifle first to review the savage action compared to my R700 LTR, and secondly because of the price. If I was to spend more money then I could have bought a more expensive rifle.

I bought a Savage Hog Hunter in 308 Win a few years ago, I liked it so much I bought another one in 223 rem last December. The 223 was not properly tapped for a scope mount. I called Savage customer service and spoke to Rob, he apologized and told me to send the rifle back. He arranged for UPS to pick up my rifle at no cost and turnaround time was about a week and a half. Talk about great customer service!

i'm not liking the internal mag in this gun, its really like having a mag into it. what ever happened to the masuer type internal mags? is there one where i can install one or something?

took the gun out hiking where i would be hunting.

things i learned.
1. stock is great, shooting off hand with a sling doesn't push the forearm up against the barrel at all.
2. not heavy for me.
3. i need a 1-4 or 1-6 scope, lol. 6-18 is took much even at 6. furthest shot i can make is 100 yards. so many **** trees everywhere.
4. i can deal with the internal mag system
5. bring a backup gun, rifle hunting season doesn't start until October and gun could freeze.
6. bring a poo bucket.
