 Today was the first match for the year at Hilltop,,, conditions were 5-10 mph switching winds combined with the heaviest mirage I've ever witnessed. It humbled us all to the greatest degree,,:(

Yeah that! We can afford a NF scope but not a precision front rest?
at least we know his priorities were on his glass....

Actually they work pretty well. He went to some extra effort with that one.
I know some guys who have them stashed at their hunting spots.

Lol,, that happens to my rifle and rest, it's a Ford focus flywheel. I'll get some close up pictures of the thing, once it's set up and lowered to pre tension the jack it is very solid. I absolutely love the thingumajig . The scope is the nxs 8-32 with np r1 retical,, it's worth more than my truck,,97 chevy 4x4 with 291,000 miles on it lol. It eliminates the need for a spotting scope. And technically I Couldn't normally afford it but It was one of those things I just had to have.

Now for hunting, you could ace the base and have about a 3"x 3/4" fast thread bolt in the bottom.
Drill a 3/4" hole thru your portable bench top and have a big wing nut under the top holding it in place.
A spring helps also for lowering it faster. I have the same scope setup on one of my hunting guns.
As for spotters, yes you can do without for shooting as your doing. But hunting is a different story.
For that you need 2 used as binnoculars.

I have also built this homemade bipod that is rock solid from the back section of a metal chair and some angle iron all fastened by a regular bipod piece I cut off and welded on that utilizes the swivel stud,, this year I made an improvement by welding on a tang with a hole just big enough for a screw to go into the rear swivel stud hole so it will not turn slightly on me,, it is extremely stable and rock solid. Shooting prone is my favorite, and last year I won a precision rifle match in Towanda P.A. using this bipod.

More of the front rest.

The rifle is a great shooter .223 McGowen barrel, B&C bedded with JB weld.

Plus if I had a flat tire on the way to a match,,it can lift my truck up and I won't be late.

Hey you could no doubt come up with lots of other uses for one of those things also.
But changing a tire is one i wouldnt have thought of.

You just cant beat the way real wood classes things up.
Put one of your socks half full of sand over those bolts and your good to go.

Sharpshooter, they never posted the scores for some reason which are always posted on the hide. I do know that I shot a 187-20 some x out of a perfect 200-40X. Like I said the mirage was so bad that you couldn't see bullet hole's not even with spotting scopes. Once you got a group going you could make that out and adjust accordingly. The 6 Dashers,, the 2 blue guns came it 1st and 2nd I do know. I also have high hopes for my .308 this year too, I will try it out next Sunday at a match in Bath N.Y. I chrono'd it yesterday for 5 shots yesterday and sd of 10 using a 168 sierra averaging 2710 fps with the 41.5 gr. IMR 4064.

Rosco,, what can I say "good minds think alike" LOL. As long as it is stable it is able.

Thanks Dan, truth is though, is when I first got into shooting I couldn't afford a front rest. So I just built my own, and it has ended up working just fine most of the time.

Thats cause you went and spent all your money on fancy sand bags rather than using your dirty socks lol.
Paint ball gun balls make decent light weight fill for those bags. Even that Protector rabbit ear can be filled
with them so long as you use a funnel with a long drop tube.
