Trying to build a medium to light-weight hunting rifle - 308. I have a 20 inch barrel from McGowan and am looking for a stock. Anybody use a Stockade stock? I go a little overboard on my rifles as I go crazy until I get 1/2 moa or better. I will bed this guy, but was curious on how stiff it is, especially the bedding area.

Thanks.

I use a Savage LA Stockade Hunter as my mountain rifle build in 280AI. The Stockade Hunter stock stripped weights around 30 oz. Total weight of the Savage LA rifle with Stockade Hunter stock picture below is 7.8 lbs. It is my favorite utility hunting rifle and stock. It is light, plenty stiff and the narrow flat forearm rides the bench bags well for developing loads. The Stockade money saver option is a great value. But be advised, the wait time for delivery is long.

I bought a Savage 111 LWH which has the lightest Savage factory stock available. I sold the 20" FW 6.5x284 LWH barrel and replace it with a 23" FW 280AI barrel (2.0 lbs). I now switch between the LWH walnut stock and the Stockade Hunter stock as desired for hunting and load development.

Stockade are good stocks, but delivery time is several months.
